Add files, folders and pictures

Drop them on the box, or press Add to your message, the + beside it, then write what you want done with them and send. Jean reads PDFs, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CSV and text files, and shows pictures to brains that can see. Each file stays in the project, to use again.

A folder

Drop a folder on the conversation, and Jean asks Work in this folder? In Chrome and Edge, on a computer, it finds, reads and changes its files where they are, showing you each change first. In other browsers it works on a copy, and Save the changed files gives you what changed. After the first folder, Add to your message offers A folder… too.

Your screen

Where the browser allows it, Add to your message has Capture your screen: Jean takes a picture of a window or of your screen, and adds it as it would a file.

Steps

  1. Drag files from your desktop or a folder onto the box: Drop your files here shows where they go.
  2. Or press Add to your message, the + beside the box, then Add files if a menu opens, and choose them.
  3. To add a picture you copied, or a screenshot, paste it in the box: Ctrl and V, or ⌘ and V on a Mac.
  4. Each file shows above the box, Reading… at first, then its pages or Picture. Its ×, Remove, takes it off before you send.
  5. Write what you want done with them, and send: sum it up, compare them, fill this form from that letter.

Good to know

  • Each file is kept in the project, on this device. In a later task, type @ in the box and part of its name to point at it again.
  • The brain reads the files’ text. With a brain in the cloud, that text goes there with your request: see What the AI sees.
  • A scan, or a picture of a page, has no text to read: brains that can see are shown it instead.
  • With a spreadsheet, Jean offers to work out the figures with a program, rather than guess them.

If it doesn’t work

It says Too big (over 100 MB)

A file over 100 MB can’t go in. Split it, or export the part you need. For many files, drop their folder instead.

It says Can’t read this kind of file yet

Jean doesn’t read that kind of file yet. Save it as a PDF or a text file first, from the app that made it.

It says No text found (a scan?)

The file holds pictures of pages, not text. A brain that can see reads them: most brains in the cloud can.

Still stuck?

Ask Jean in your own words, for instance: Which files have I shared in this project?

If that doesn’t help, write to arnaud@jean.is.
