Jean for nonprofits

Free AI, for every volunteer.

The grant application, the AGM minutes, the members’ newsletter, the accounts, the poster for the summer fair: ask in your own words or with your notes, and get them back done. Everyone opens it in their own browser, with no seats to pay for.

  • Files stay on the device

Nine in ten have no paid staff at all.

In France, it all rests on volunteers, in the evenings and at weekends, on their own computers and phones, with no IT department and no budget for software.

Jean is free for everyone: no seats, no discount to apply for, no proof to send. Each volunteer opens it in their browser, on their own device.

Your nonprofit’s jobs, done.

Each button opens Jean on a real request, with sample notes. Swap in your own afterwards.

Numbers are worked out, not guessed. Read the words as you would a fellow board member’s.

Before the board says yes.

Four questions come up in every nonprofit. Here are the answers, with no small print.

What does it cost?

Jean is free, for as many volunteers as you like: no seats, no subscription, no key to ask for. The AI that answers can be free too.

  • Start for free: a free account at a provider, limited each day.
  • With no account at all, on a computer with 12 GB of memory and a recent graphics chip.
  • Or an AI one of you already pays for.

On our own devices?

Yes, with nothing to install: a recent browser is enough, on a computer, a tablet or a phone.

  • No Jean account: there isn’t one.
  • Everyone keeps their work in their browser; a backup keeps it safe.
  • The private AI needs a computer, not a phone.

And our members’ data?

The membership list stays encrypted on the device of whoever opens it. There is no Jean server.

  • What you send to an online AI goes to its provider, on its terms.
  • With the private AI, nothing leaves the computer, even offline.
  • Sending, sharing or deleting: Jean asks you first.

And those who have never used AI?

One box, nothing to learn first. Suggestions come when they help, in one sentence, and “No thanks” is for good.

  • Ask Jean what you can ask it: two or three ideas, one to try right away.
  • A task is shared by link: whoever opens it carries it on at home.
  • AI can be wrong: read it through before you sign or send.

Where your files go

An AI charter, adopted by the board.

Who uses it, for what, and what never goes in: a template in plain words, written with Jean and returned as a Word file.

What Jean doesn’t do.

Your questions.

Is it really free for a nonprofit?

Yes. Jean is free, open-source software for everyone, with no seats to count: there is no discount to apply for and no proof to send.

Does the nonprofit need a key or an account?

No. Nobody needs a key to use Jean. A key is only for an organisation that hosts its own Jean, with its own settings; for a nonprofit, it is free.

Then which AI answers?

The one you choose at the first message: Start for free, with a free OpenRouter account, limited each day; a private AI, on a capable computer; or an AI you already pay for.

What about our membership list?

It stays encrypted on the device of whoever opens it. Before sending any of it to an online AI, ask whether it needs it: whatever you send goes to its provider. For what is sensitive, the private AI lets nothing out.

Can we work on it together?

Each on their own device. A task is shared by a link, sealed in your browser: only those with the link can read it, and whoever has Jean carries it on at home.

Does it work on volunteers’ phones?

Yes, in the browser, with nothing to install. Only the private AI needs a computer.

In which languages?

In 46, right to left included, and you can switch mid-conversation: useful to nonprofits that welcome people from elsewhere.

Do volunteers need training?

Not to start: one box, and suggestions when they help. After that, anyone can ask Jean what they can ask it.

Start with the next AGM.

  1. Open Jean in your browser.
  2. Choose the AI that answers: free with an account, or private on this computer.
  3. Send this page to the board and the volunteers.
