Terms of service
Last updated
These terms are an agreement between you and Warehouse SAS (“we”) about using Jean, the AI assistant at jean.is, its gateway at gateway.jean.is and its share host at hst.ing. By using Jean, you accept them. The privacy policy says what happens to your data.
1. What Jean is
Jean is an assistant that runs in your browser. It is free, needs no account, and keeps your tasks and files on your device. It answers with the brains you choose, on your device or in the cloud, and reaches the services you connect.
Jean’s code is open source, under the MIT licence. These terms take away nothing the licence gives you. A copy of Jean served from another address, such as your organisation’s, is run by whoever serves it: its own terms apply to it, not these.
2. Brains, connections and other services
The brains, connections, extensions, skills and sites you use through Jean belong to others. When you use them, you deal with them: their terms, prices and privacy policies apply, and what they charge to a key or an account you added is yours to pay. Some brains and programs that Jean downloads to your device come with their own licence and rules of use. We don’t control these services, don’t guarantee them and aren’t responsible for them.
3. What Jean does for you
Jean acts on your requests. By default it reads and writes its own files without asking, asks you first before it sends, shares or deletes anything or reaches outside, and never enters passwords or makes payments. You can change some of these rules, and an organisation may set them for you. You are responsible for what you ask, what you approve and the rules you choose.
4. Answers and what Jean makes
Jean’s answers are written by AI. They can be wrong, incomplete, out of date or inappropriate, even when they sound sure. They are not professional advice, medical, legal, financial or other. Check what matters before you rely on it or share it: you are responsible for how you use them.
Whatever rights exist in what Jean makes for you are yours, as far as we are concerned. The law may not protect works made by AI, and others may get similar answers.
What Jean makes says that AI made it, as the EU’s AI Act asks: a picture made on your device or your computer carries a record in its file and an invisible watermark in its pixels, a file Jean makes says so where its format can, and what the brain on your device writes carries a watermark in its choice of words. Don’t remove or alter these marks, or those of the brains you use. If you publish a picture or a film that could pass for real, or a text on a matter of public interest that no one reviewed, the law may ask you to say that AI made it: a picture can also be saved with that label.
5. Your content
What you write, drop in and make with Jean stays yours, on your device. We don’t receive it, except a copy you share by link, which we keep sealed only to make it available (section 6), and these terms give us no other right to it. Make sure you may use what you give Jean: files, pictures, other people’s data.
Since your data lives in your browser, clearing this site’s data, or losing or resetting your device, deletes it. Download backups (Settings › Your data): we can’t recover what we never had.
6. Sharing by link
When you share a task, or a page, chart, slides or picture, by link, anyone who has the link, and its password if you set one, can open the copy until it ends or you stop sharing it, save it, and continue it in their own Jean. Share only what you may share, and only with the people you mean to: we can’t see what you share, and we can’t take back a copy someone has already opened or saved.
Our share host, hst.ing, only keeps the sealed copy for as long as you chose. We don’t check what is shared, but we act on reports: anyone can report a share from its page, or by writing to arnaud@jean.is. When a report or an authority shows a share to be unlawful or against these terms, we take it down, and its link then says so. Shares are anonymous, so we can’t let whoever made it know. We pass on to the competent authorities what the law requires.
7. Acceptable use
Use Jean lawfully and with respect for others. Don’t use Jean or our gateway to:
- break the law or the rights of others, including their privacy, intellectual property and image;
- make or spread sexual content involving minors, intimate pictures of anyone without their consent, or content that incites violence or hatred;
- harass, deceive or impersonate anyone, or send spam;
- attack, probe or overload any system, ours included, or get around a service’s security or limits;
- reach anything through the gateway other than the services Jean connects to;
- use the share host for anything but sharing what you made with Jean, such as keeping or handing out files.
We may block the gateway or the share host to anyone who misuses them, and take down a share that breaks these rules.
8. Availability and changes
We provide Jean as it is and as available, free of charge. We may change it, add or remove features, or stop it, in whole or in part, at any time, and will try to say so in advance when we can. Once loaded, much of Jean keeps working on your device without the internet.
9. Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits a liability that the law doesn’t allow us to exclude or limit: for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or your rights as a consumer under the law of the country where you live.
Within those limits, we are not responsible for the brains, services, sites and extensions you use through Jean, nor for what you do with Jean’s answers, nor for what you share and what others do with it. If you use Jean for your work or your business, it comes without any warranty, and we are not liable for any loss or damage that comes from using it.
10. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. The new version applies from the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If a change matters, we will say so here at least 30 days before it applies, unless the law or a security issue requires sooner. If you don’t accept it, stop using Jean.
11. Law and disputes
French law governs these terms. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory law of the country where you live, and may go to its courts. Otherwise, the courts of Paris have jurisdiction. Before anything else, write to us at arnaud@jean.is: we will try to settle it together.
The French and English versions of these terms have the same value.
