How Jean shows what it can do

Jean starts with a single box. Each thing it can do shows up when a moment calls for it, in one sentence above the box: Turn it on turns it on, No thanks leaves it off. Settings › Capabilities shows them all, found or still to find, and turns any of them on early.

Show me in JeanOpens Jean at the right place and points at each button. It changes nothing by itself.

How each one shows up

From something you do: a file dropped, a long text pasted, a spreadsheet shared. From what you ask: a request that needs your email, a picture or exact figures. Or after a while: a few tasks done, the same kind of request on different days. Only one is offered at a time, and only once: No thanks is for good, though its page can still turn it on.

An offer above the box, as it comes once a question needs the web: Turn on web search turns it on, No thanks leaves it off.

Why it works this way

So that the first screen stays simple, and Jean loads only what you use: what you never turn on never reaches this device. And nothing is added without your yes.

Steps

  1. Open Settings, from the menu with your name (or “You”), at the foot of the task list, then Capabilities.
  2. The count at the top says how many you have found so far.
  3. A lit row is found, and says what it does. A dashed one is still to find, and says how it comes. Open a row for its page: Turn on turns it on early, and Turn off turns a found one off.
Capabilities: a lit row is found; the dashed one is still to find, and says how it comes.
  4. Turn on everything turns on every one at once. Those that need a download still ask you first.

Good to know

  • Ask Jean what it can do: it answers with two or three things that fit what you do, and one to try now.
  • Documents and spreadsheets is always there: ask for a Word document or a spreadsheet in your first request.
  • Turned off, a capability shows nothing and loads nothing. Jean opens again where you were, and what it made is kept.
  • At work, your organisation may turn some on for you or keep some out; in a child’s profile, a parent may. Those say whose choice they are.
  • Each capability brings its own words: see Words you’ll see in Jean.

If it doesn’t work

You pressed No thanks, and now you want it

Open its row in Settings › Capabilities, and press Turn on.

Something you read about isn’t in the list

Your organisation keeps it out, or this browser can’t run it: some need Chrome or Edge on a computer.

Still stuck?

Ask Jean in your own words, for instance: What can you do that I haven’t tried yet?

If that doesn’t help, write to arnaud@jean.is.
