Your plan stopped answering
- Fix
- About 2 minutes
- Every browser, on a computer
A Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot plan answers through This computer: a line you pasted in a terminal, which runs only while that terminal is open. Once your computer restarts, or the terminal is closed, Jean can’t reach your plan and says “Couldn’t reach …”. Copy the line again in Settings › Computer › This computer, paste it in a terminal and press Enter: your plan answers again.

Why it happens
Jean runs in your browser, which can’t start a program on your computer by itself. The line you pasted starts a small program there, which hands your requests to Claude Code, Copilot or ChatGPT. When the terminal closes, or the computer shuts down or restarts, that program stops with it, and your plan can’t be reached until the line runs again. Your plan, its sign-in and your tasks are all still there.
Steps
- Open Settings, from the menu with your name (or “You”), at the foot of the task list, then Computer. This computer says Not connected: open it.
- Press Copy: it takes the whole line, its key too.
- Open a terminal in the folder you used before, paste the line there and press Enter. Leave that terminal open: the line runs as long as it does.
- Within a few seconds, This computer says which folder it runs in: the page notices by itself. Then open Brains, open your plan’s brain, which says Needs you, and press Try again. If your plan answers, the message goes away, and so does Needs you.
Good to know
- The line is the same every time, so pasting it again is all it takes. It holds a key of its own: keep it to yourself.
- Your plan stays signed in on your computer: after a restart, you don’t sign in again.
- In the desktop app, This computer starts again by itself each time Jean opens.
If it doesn’t work
The terminal says node isn’t found
The line needs Node.js, a free program, on your computer. Install it from nodejs.org, then open a new terminal and paste the line again.
The line runs, and your plan still can’t be reached
Claude Code or Copilot may want you to sign in again: type claude, or copilot then /login, in a terminal, and sign in. Then press Try again on the brain’s page. If it still fails, see Jean couldn’t reach a brain.
You’d rather not keep a terminal open
Use the desktop app, which starts the line by itself, or a brain that needs no terminal at all: Choose the AI that answers.
